What is the Young Worker Leadership Academy?
The YWLA is a fun, interactive, all-expense paid, 3-day leadership training on workplace safety, rights, and responsibilities. It introduces participants to service
strategies (policy, education, media), and provides a forum for
youth to plan service learning projects for their schools and communities to promote positive, safe employment for youth.

What's New?

1. Six participants from last year's Academy in Anaheim applied to be Youth Mentors and presenters at the Sacramento and Los Angeles Academies. The Youth Mentors who participated were:
    Ashley
    Celina
    Christina
    Jonathan

2. Three days

3. Workplace Field Visits: Small groups of youth went out "on location" to observe and interview their peers in different work settings. The groups practiced interviewing before going out and then reported back to the whole group what they observed and learned.

Sponsors and Partners:
The YWLA is sponsored by UCLA-LOSH, UC Berkeley LOHP, and the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC). The California Center for Civic Participation (Sacramento) and the California Partnership for Young Worker Health and Safety are key partners in planning, implementing, and evaluating the Academy.
