Commemorating Safe Jobs for Youth Month in May, 2004, a collection of historical child labor photographs by Lewis Hine was exhibited from May 17 - June 25, 2004 in Los Angeles.
A standards-based mini-unit, Child Labor — Then and Now, for secondary teachers was developed by UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH)
Youth Project and can be downloaded for free at www.losh.ucla.edu
The collection, Crusade Against Child Labor Let Children Be Children,
and its tour were organized by the George Eastman House. It was displayed in San Francisco in 2003. This year's Los Angeles exhibit was at the Los Angeles City Hall Land Bridge
Gallery. Next year, the exhibit will be on display in San Jose, CA.
Sponsors included the UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program, the Commission on
Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation, the UCLA Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, the Los Angeles City Attorney, Los Angeles City Council member, Wendy
Greuel, the California Wellness Foundation, Marlene Canter and the Los Angeles School Board, and other community partners.
Winning posters from the annual Safe Jobs for Youth Month poster contest accompanied the Hine exhibit.
