YWLA Alumni

YWLA alumni

Upon completing the Young Worker Leadership Academy, alumni are given opportunities to continue advocating for health and safety for underrepresented workers. Some of these opportunities are listed below.

YWLA Mentors

Alumni have the the option of returning to the YWLA for a second year as youth mentors. After successfully completing an application and being selected, mentors help lead activities at the YWLA, participate in Youth Mentor sessions, give guidance to the YWLA teams, and create a youth mentor community service project.

American Public Health Association Panel

Alumni participated in the "Youth Voices on Health and Safety at Work" panel at the 2008 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting and Exposition held in San Diego. Four YWLA alumni presented their experiences learning about occupational safety and health and the process of educating their peers. The youth gave an excellent presentation to APHA members and brought insight to the importance of youth involvement in occupational safety and health.

Workers' Memorial Day

Alumni appear as public speakers at Southern California's Workers' Memorial Day each year to promote the need for outreach and continued youth involvement in occupational illness and injury. In 2009, YWLA alum members of the Fab-4 enlightened the audience with a "Safety Rap" they had created, featured in this video.

YWLA Alumni Websites

Alumni also continue advocacy and education through various web pages. Check out the websites and become a MySpace member to get updates on upcoming events and share resources.
