Outreach at a community health fairAs part of WOSHTEP, LOSH collaborates with employers and unions, community-based organizations, worker centers, adult schools, vocational ESL programs, and health promoter networks
to build their capacity and provide health and safety awareness sessions to vulnerable worker populations such as non-English speakers and those working in high-risk industries and their advocates.

These sessions provide basic health and safety training and cultivate interest among participants in the 24-hour Specialist courses.

  • Arranged in two- to four-hour interactive trainings
  • Emphasize training for vulnerable and non-English speaking workers
  • Engage workers through participatory activities and use of visual tools
  • Motivates workers to participate and take on leadership roles
  • Introduce basics of workplace injury and illness prevention and rights and responsibilities of workers and employers
  • Target specific needs of the worker population
  • Build capacity of community-based organizations to address workplace health and safety issues
