Nancy Morales, is the Youth Project Coordinator for the LOSH Program. Her involvement with the youth project began during her high school years at Thomas Jefferson High School where she was a student participant in the development of the LOSH Safe Jobs for Youth Curricula. Then she completed an internship through the People Organizing for Workers and Environmental Rights-P.O.W.E.R Project with Concerned Citizens of South Central Los Angeles.
After high school Ms. Morales continued her education at Santa Monica Community College while simultaneously working with LOSH as a youth project assistant from 2002 – 2003, acquiring much experience in the field of young worker health and safety and project management. With LOSH encouragement and support, Ms. Morales transferred and completed her undergraduate education at the University of California at Santa Cruz, studying abroad in Brazil and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Intensive Psychology. She then completed a one year AmeriCorps assignment in Arizona where she implemented an after school program and brought in outside resources for a housing project under the auspices of the National Farm Workers Service.
Returning to LOSH as the Youth Project Coordinator in September 2007, Ms. Morales is responsible for coordinating the LOSH youth project which includes: trainings on young worker safety and health, organizing young worker health and safety leadership academies, participating as a key member of the California Partnership for Young Worker Health and Safety, and creating and maintaining collaborations within LOSH projects, educational institutions, and other youth and community organizations. All her work is done using a “Peer Education Model” - training and supporting the individual growth of youth as safety and health educators and leaders within their wider communities. |
