The HAZWOPER Standard (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) requires health and safety training for persons managing hazardous waste or who are involved in an emergency response release such as leaks, spills, accidents or fires. Since 1987, LOSH has provided this training in English and Spanish for workers in both the private and public sectors.
LOSH is the lead organization for the five-university Western Region Universities Consortium (WRUC) which provides hazmat training from the U.S- Mexico Border to Alaska and the Pacific Islands.
WRUC educates over 3,000 workers and professionals each year.
LOSH is a subunit of UCLA's Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH)
